A look at the Eurovision Song Contest
More than just good music on the stage on the Eurovision Song Contest
Some weeks ago, the 65th Eurovision Song Contest took place in Rotterdam, Netherlands. This year is the Italian group Maneskin who brough home the trophy with the song Zitti e Buoni. They brought swagger, confidence and high-quality music on the stage of the ESC.
Especially in this particular period of our history, the ESC is an opportunity for all Europeans to gather and stand together, as it has always done.
How was it born?
Do you want to know more about the Eurovision Song Contest? Here some infos.
About the origins, the Italian Tv writer Sergio Pugliese proposed the idea for Eurovision, modelled on Italy’s Sanremo Music Festival, with the aim of bonding European countries together in the aftermath of the Second World War. This is one of the main reasons why it was meant to be apolitical.
The first ESC was staged in Lugano on May 24th, 1956, when only 7 countries participated.
But what’s make Eurovision such an attractive event?
It’s simple. Performances are incredibly breath-taking. Productions are astonishing, full of over-the-top special effects and hilarious lyrics.
What about Malta?
And what about Malta in the ESC? Who did represent it this year?
The Maltese young singer Destiny Chukungere took the stage of the Eurovision 2021 with her song “Je Me Casse” which truly represents Destiny’s lifestyle. She actually stated that for her “empowerment is not a word or a gimmick for the sake of a story”.
It is not the first time that the singer speaks out against “hot issues” such us racism and female’s empowerment.
Because of her bi-racial origins, she has been attacked many times. But, for her it is just a blessing being part of these two worlds.
“Growing in a multicultural family is such an advantage and allows you to be more tolerant towards other cultures”, this is the message that Destiny wants to spread, and not only.
In a society that condemns you because you are not a size zero, there is Destiny who invites everyone to be confident and beautiful in their own skin, speaking against any type of label.
Fortunately, there are people like Destiny who are going to make a change in our society note by note!
